🔊WHITE SULPHUR ROAD RAILROAD CROSSING TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE NEXT WEEK.🚧

Beginning Aug. 25, the White Sulphur Road railroad crossing near Sargent Road will be temporarily closed until Aug. 30. Motorists in that area are encouraged to use the main detour of Cagle Road to SR 365; however, Hall County has worked with Norfolk Southern and the Georgia Ports Authority to temporarily reopen the White Sulphur Road railroad crossing at the Blue Ridge Connector (Inland Port) during peak traffic hours as an alternative.

Hall County will operate a single-lane, controlled access point at the Blue Ridge Connector and White Sulphur Road railroad crossing. Controlled access will be operational from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. During the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., access will be closed, requiring drivers to use SR 365 via Cagle Road. This will allow for safer and more controlled traffic flow during peak travel times.

Flaggers will be in place to help drivers navigate the temporary reopening during operating hours, and detour signage will be posted starting Monday, Aug. 25. Additionally, road resurfacing will take place from Sargent Road to Big Oak Road during this time.

Hall County would like to thank Norfolk Southern and the Georgia Ports Authority for their collaboration in creating safer, more efficient detour operations for this necessary work.

For questions about the temporary detour, please contact Hall County’s Engineering Division at 770-531-6800. For more information on current road projects and detours, visit hallcounty.org. If you have questions, you can call 770-535-8288.

URGENT Lake Lanier Alert

Please Refrain From Using Lawn Fertilizer

Some boaters and lake goers have reported - what appears to be - harmful algal blooms. Please DO NOT enter the water in areas where you see what looks like green paint splattering the water or shores. These algal blooms can be especially harmful for YOU and your furry friends!

Wondering how and why these algal blooms are appearing? Due to an unseasonable warm fall, lack of rain and the lake turning over + combined with our affection for green lawns... It’s quite literally, a deadly combination.

Most common in shallow waters and should dissipate with rain. The algal blooms come and go, so if you see these - stay out of the water AND please be sure to report the sighting!

If you See Something, please Say Something via the “Report a Problem” form on the LLA website, lakelanier.org/report-a-problem/

The toxicity of these reports haven’t been confirmed, but the severity of the concern is worth alerting and we advise you visit the lake with caution. A sample from these reports has been taken to the Gwinnett County Water Resources Laboratory and we hope to be able to offer an update on the results in the upcoming days.
